One Night in Africa with Oliver Mtukudzi: AYISECACE!

Once again the team jets off to Carnival City. We got tempted by the gambling machines, thanks to the security for showing us Top Arena. Ekurhuleni was on fire with the likes of Asanda Bam, Jaziel Brothers and some Zim artist …who has released over 40 albums thus far. Tata when were you born? Maybe his first album was released whilst he was in Pre School. Thomas something I forget the name as I was holding my breath for Oliver, who is looking vey sick yet he can still deliver the same.

What makes you go down your knees; we all know you can sing? Who is your hairstylist I bet you, he must have prison influence to do such dangerous looking hairstyle. It’s always nice to see you on stage and AYISECACE crew loves Ndakusowa, even though we do not miss you yet.


Finally Jaziel Brothers get on the groove. Yes! the brothers can move and even dance on stage. Thanks to their new backup singer. He is a miracle choreographer, for the backup ladies… loosen up girls, it’s not a church gathering. At first I thought they were some hospitality crew … ladies please get rid of those air hostesses scurf’s and pants. Black and white tuxedos by Jaziel broers, I almost mistake them for Bala, brothers at the backstage. Our moment came when Oliver joined Jaziel on stage for the first time singing”Africa.”

One night in Africa came down. Zimbabwean fans flock like headless chicken as the MC announces Oliver Mtukudzi on stage. The venue went black all over. It felt like we were in Zim with Mugabe at some tradition celebration. Tuku’s all white outfits like an angel. Hope it’s not a sign. Angel’s do sing too… The Mbira legend took the centre stage. Despite Tuku’s current health status, he is still strong enough to please the crowd. Thanks to Sheer Music for the invite. Next time please cater for your crew at least. AYISECACE! Nomhle goes to Africa

If you think backup singers have no style wait and see for the new Nomhle coming out album. Last night we relinquish the cold and find ourselves at the Bassline-live on stage Nomhle featuring Nokwazi Dlamini. “There was a zulu on my stoep” when Dlamini with her purple Zulu outfit took the stage and the colourful Zulu dancers. How old are you sisi? Don’t you get tired of lifting your legs? AYISECA crew loves your sincerely and upbeat Zulu feel. The venue was attended by music industry old fellows. We manage to buy tickets on time, cash bar and no VIP treatment. The event was attended by backup singer.


This was a night of reunion to the likes of Shadon Dee of ‘local as lekker fame,’ Khanyi Maphumulo who was looking like one of Arthur’s dancers in a bigger picture. Sisi Herbex works wonders. Saw Pu2ma, Zuluboy and Camagwini another Native Rhythms reunion. Camagwini, where are you hiding these days? We hardly see you.... love your sexy car, but loose that bling and African jewellery... jewellery police come on call! Still on Pu2ma, what’s eating you girl, you seem to be losing weight every time I see you. Ringo Mandlingozi was all over the place, acting like a student who has just tested negative. He even took over the microphone from Mbuso who was sharing the stage with Nokwazi. Bhuti don’t you tired of fame?


When Nomhle took the stage we were confused-she came in wearing, black skirt, black and white top with a wine red figure belt, another fashion chaos. Love her white with black lace shoes. Uyanda Mbuli must be jealous. The black skirt looked smashed. I hope it’s not one of Museum Africa stolen items. AYISECACE! confused by her eye lashes and blue sky mascara. Nomhle sings with passion, her simplicity adds to the velvet toned voice. Her opening song reminded me of Mama Letta Mbuli. Salif Keita has some influence on her vocals. In the song ‘Africa’ that kept us warm yet dazed, Nomhle depict unusual corners of Africa, including her birthplace, Port Elizabeth. ‘Ingane’ featuring Zuluboy. Nomhle becomes self narrative of the neighbour who abused the child. Nomhle calls for calm in the song. Despite all the efforts the event was well attended. Thanks to some guy name Sisa who made it all possible for the night. Next time do invite more media. AYISECACE!

AYISECACE! This past weekend our sangoma and the crew of World on Press took the indoor sky trip to Monte something.... heavy traffic blogged seen from outside of the venue. It took us more than fifteen minutes looking for the actual venue. Saw on the door Kuli Roberts of Headline. Sisi are you growing grey hair or was that real diamonds on your plain shave? AYISECACE! She grabs every celeb from the red carpet... meant yellow plastic carpet. Give us some chance, it’s our time. Thanks to Heineken, for the overflowing drinks on VIP court. Sipokazi- attached to the hubby,. At last we get to see who she goes to bed with.


Not only Loyiso Bala can sing, he can talk nonstop. Boy! Teach Zwai how to make sense. Maybe Melanie got something to do. Saw a group of five boys with Summer Sun glasses” it’s SAMA” not Summers boys. When Ntsiki and the little forever smiles Nomsa Mazwai came in, it felt like Eastern Cape- at some ritual or traditional ceremony of Fikile Mbalula. Who is the colored-Koi and San looking chic you were with? Maybe I will ask Kuli Roberts she is famous with colored people.

The show went on with live performances by Nomsa Mazwai, who seems to have Sunday school teacher manners. Well done sis Ntsiki for being the cutest and neatest Mazwai child. Maybe your sister will learn the best. Where were you Thandiswa this past weekend? Or boycott the SAMAs like Putuma, Asanda Bam, Phinda and Simpiwe Dana did? They were not in this year’s scene. What happended to Lira? Relo of Gift of life fame- never again present any award, stay in your singing career. I did sleep whilst she was presenting or something. Ama Zion collaboration with the Afrikaans boy and Sipokazi both nights 2 minutes stage appearances, great stuff. The producers really can noodle artists. Friday night bar was closed immediately after the awards, the after party live on stage with Nothende, so confused on stage. Uju did a rendition of Lebo Mathosa and Trompies. Took us back in the days and expose our age. Imagine Fohloza trying the late Mathosa moves. Freshlyground outside public viewing stage went wild with only less than 20 fans. Organizers next time please go to Alex and Soweto for free entry tickets give away.


The main yellow Carpet event, we got in at the back door, we were not sure which side of the tent to enter. Only when security chased us away we found ourselves at the VIP tent with a small yellow carpet and some few celebs. Saw Uyanda Mbuli looking confused...maybe she was trying to write her CV. Fat Albert Akhumzi get a perfect size next time. One size not fits all for you! Who is the white old rag chic you hang with these days? Kwela Tebza must be Gay by now. I do not care who says what. Oh the Gay social network goddess- Vusi Nogxa finally stops smiling at everything, now he’s a real celeb, no more fake smiles. How is your husband bhuti? AYISECACE! Have you relocated for good?


We took a sho’ left to the smoking area saw Loctinville (excuse my typo) Boys looking like lost soul. Love their sudden British accent, are you boys AWB members? The winners included Stimela, Ray Phiri who got us into tears, Professor and some SWAT team who reminded us of American thriller movie, even Kwela Tebza gets to win.
Saturday supposedly main event night went dead and chaotic with the nonstop late arrival of guests. Saw Juju ntwana- looking very warm in the tent. Saw Kenny Kunene with a net on his face. Most of the Mzansi‘s Music celebs were not in attendance due to high price ticket sale. Yes this year’s tickets were on sale both for after party and gala night. A grand gets you in. Somizi made a foolish joke about Mama Rebecca Malope. Miss bling- I saw your mom other day at some function and Lilian Dube pointed out “When I see Mary Twala I see the end... I do not want to be at that age.” Lilian dube speaks. How true is that? Siphendule makazi? Lira must have just wake up and forgot to comb the 40’s hairstyle, was that natural blow out or relaxed cat hair. Love PJ Powers Tandeka’s groove and isishwapa for life. AYISECACE!


The awards ceremony was boring we even took a quick nap and woke up with some Gay look alike live performance by Zakes Bantwini. Boy not only you save the SAMA 17 with the only real performance, it was not proudly South African act. Ask Die aanword for creativity. Send our greeting to Black Coffee.Bonang and Fat Joe- Trevor Noah must be craze for job not well done. Next time try to talk more about music in SA.
