Get ready for this year’s Golden Horn Awards. The 5th SAFTA Awards nomination launch held at SterKinekor Cinema-Rosebank. Whilst other fellow journos were camping outside Millpark hospital, trying to get a blood out of Mandela. We were busy attending the SAFTAS nomination announcement. Each year the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) of South Africa oversee these awards, appointed by the industry as the custodians. Attended by celebrities, government officials, nominees and media. On the nominee night embraced by UyandaMbuli,Akin Omotoso, Sechaba of Isidingo, Brenda Ngxoli, ThokozaniNkosi,Media Guru- Lesley Mofokeng,Dj Switch,MakganoMammabolo,MotshabiTyelele and others. Guest were treated in style and given a taste of what is to come during the two days ceremony.

This year’s SAFTAS will be held at Madame Zingara’s Theatre of Dreams, Melrose Arch. I must say The State Theatre-Pretoria has been the best host venue with first class security. The first event to be held on Sunday 20th of February will award winners in the Non-fiction categories, followed by the second session which will award the Fiction categories held on Sunday 27th of February. “We are very excited about the event this year. The process of the past 9 months from call for entries to the judging process and now the run up to the event has been a labour of love for all concerned and hosting the awards in the Madame Zingara Theatre of Dreams will be a delightfully daring experience,” says Azania Muendane, NFVF Head of Marketing and Public Affairs.

“The NFVF congratulate this year’s nominees and wish them all the best for the main event where all winners will be revealed. The NFVF, the SAFTAS Committee as well as the judging panel are amazed at the support the awards received this year. Eighteen (18) feature films were submitted to contest in the 5thSAFTAs, tripling the number of entries in this genre compared to last year’s awards,” says Eddie Mbalo NFVF CEO. Mbalo further emphasized that the increase in the features entry is testament that the industry is indeed thriving. “With commitment to supporting the industry by the Arts and Culture Minister Paul Mashatile, we are guaranteed that the industry will grow to its full potential as a business sector and an economic contributor to the country.”

Dreams will come through at Madame Zingare’sThatre of Dreams… and the nominees are: This time 7de Laan gets one nomination for Best Ensemble in TV Soap. E-TV’s Rhythm City is nominated six times. On top is the popular soapy Isidingo with 10 nominations. Life Above All the movie is leading the movie category followed by Spud with six nominations. On the best supporting soapactor ‘Senzo’ Thami Mqgolo of Generation is up against Isidingo’s Lesley fong and Maurice Paige. Melanie Bala of ‘Let's Chat with Mel’ is nominated under Best talk show category against Afrikaans shows ‘Dis hoe dit is met Steve’ and ‘Robinson Regstreeks.’ Be sure not to miss the 5th SAFTAS. The venue was Rosebank-The Bank, this time we hit hard and get to meet with the who’s who in the SA socialites and wannabe butterflies or should I say celebs. The party started at a high note and ended with a signature launch of Khaboninas website and national club tour. Khaboninas groove Fierce and fabulous in Red as the order of the night. The 10th Anniversary – Khabonina’s Birthday show. Saw Somizi Mhlongo at the parking lot looking like a hot tomato with a bling. Are we still doing bling Bangane? AYISECACE! VIP’s were treated in style at the entrance, with Red Roses. I thought it was Valentine’s Day. Love all over The Bank, I suggest keep your rose as you might not get anything next month. Black and Red Roses… you can imagine the mess.



Inside the venue, hectic line up of entertainer’s kept us on the dance floor till the morning. Remember the Free State Afro group Mina Nawe… their female singer is a hottie, can I have your number? Thozamile of Mina Nawe looked like dance your burt off contestant. Liesl Graham- music to believe in, the singer with her dancehall Ball gown- took us on the red carpet mood with her royal outfit yet dancehall performance. Girl you are the singing version of Lady Diana? “mara white people.” Next time check your invite dress code that was not a Gala night. Show stoppers did it again with their hectic moves…. The show didn’t stop at all as DJ Sbu kept us wet. LuloCafe is not only handsome but he can is the beat maker, my body still ache. Khabo next time please tuu… make sure you don’t hire magicians it looks weird and scary at night. When Miss Party took the stage she did a stellar performance with the drum beat boys African yet sexy performance. The crowd stood and watch as she entertains us with her fresh dance moves.




Stylish and elegant yet on point with Black and Red dress. Revlon did wonders with your hair for the night. Who was Mr Party or are you one of those? *WINK* AYISECACE! Oh the cake my God… tall and brown with choc-red. Girl you looked hot and sober throughout the night. Learn it from the best, your mother must be proud of you. It’s hard to find celebs sober on their birthday celebrations. I suggest a How to stay clean and sober workshop for S.A celebs. Khabo was that your mom or sister… she is sizzling? Saw Wright Ngubeni looking like a Mr. Price add kid, bhuti stop acting like a Hollywood star this is Mzansi, get on the bus. Amstel of 3sum nice seeing you looking simple…are you still mourning Jeff, as for Koyo am not sure? Miss Dunhill the new Jozi goddess kept looking at me… sisi I am not interested at all. Lesego of Isidingo as the MC… where are you hiding these days. Thanks to Graig Palm for the bottle of finest wine, hope it didn’t mean anything. “Nca my broer!” When is your movie coming out? JOZI FASHION WEEK LIGHTS UP

Bhala bhala mabhalane… remembering Brenda Fassie whilst trying to figure out how did we get to lavish Randlords at Braamfontein, this past Tuesday- launch of Africa Fashion International being Jozi Fashion Week. This times its autumn and winter 2011. Trying to find a parking, a good looking lady ushers us in from the lot, my friend in the car *amazed* “is this a joke such beautiful ladies at parking lot?” AYISECACE! We then get into the venue; one hour late is not ayoba at all. Most guests were standing in the foyer, don’t ask me why… lucky for us the TV screens all over Randlords as if we care. The venue set up right at the door step, so you should know. We struggled to get to the bar and the waiter shouted “cash bar only” we thought since it’s the Motsepe’s hosting we might get free booze… try next door. Mrs Precious Motsepe World On Press loves your pretty dress… reminds us of African Cinderella. I am not sure about your makeup, Ego Mash when you decide to do a comeback start with Mrs Motsepe. The event was attended by sponsors, government representatives, celebs, fashion dogs and cats including the likes of Sonia Booth, Jen Sue, Nothende.

Food came in platforms-saw Koyo Bala with black and white skinny Clown pants looking like a sick wet cat. Bhuti Buyelekhaya if Jozi’s nightlife is hard. Still on black and white. Mrs Motsepe next time hire black DJ will do us proud… as the whitey DJ wet and dancing next to the beat. I am still traumatised by DJ Dino Moran the “white boy “loves white music yet he is world renowned DJ. We waited for any Durban’s song until now. DJ Zinhle was moving up and down like a headless chicken trying to grab attention. Sisi we love you but next time do disaster management when the DJ starts horse riding at night *death by animal welfare*. I tried dancing to the tune.
I spotted the group of bright colourful boys with weirdest hairstyle- Smartiz the fashion rats. It felt like spring day and Caribbean party. Don’t say I didn’t warn you Noni Gasa and Felipe Mazibuko scares me to death. I might die soon if I see them together again. Jen and Jerry there’s something about your smiles are they real or is it me? Zizo Beda was that a mini wedding dress? I hope it’s not a sign from God… maybe I am the prophet. If you get married can I be at your lobola negotiations pleazzzzzzzzzzeee, I love such occasions? AYISECACE! I swear on my late friends grave who died of overdose, next time when I see Kwela Tebza together I will cut the mothers cord just to free them from being sticky and stiffly * hides* Due to cash bar the night was short. On my way out saw queen or King David Tlale trying to analyse my outfit, you could have ask me Uncle Dave, as my natural stylist instinct comes for free though I dress like a potato bag sometimes. Oh Gert was that your Fiancée or you were just trying to grab my attention? When is the weeding date so I could come and dance Indlamu or Umteyo. Gay community loves to feel fashion house, events organizers next time invite Apple Seed of Bongo Muffin as MC… then you will thank me. AYISECACE!

Jozi Fashion week is set to kick off 15 to 19 February. All over Johannesburg hottest venues including Bus Factory, JHB Art Gallery, Fashion Kapitol,The Rand club and Randlords. David Tlale is sure to close the Mandela Bridge with one night only Fashion show. Don’t ask me for directions. Established designers: Abegail Keats,Loin Cloth & Ashes, Kluk CGDT, Suzaan Heyns,Tart, Thula Sindi and many more are on the line-up to showcase their Autumn and winter 2011 collections.
