President Zuma sends condolences to the Mandela family

President Jacob Zuma has learnt with great sadness of the untimely passing of President Nelson Mandela's sister, Makhulu Nothusile Bhulehluthi (nee Nokuthamba Mandela) on Saturday night, 28 January 2011.





Makhulu Bhulehluthi was President Mandela's youngest sister and his only surviving sibling, out of 31 children of the late Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela.




"On behalf of myself, the people and government of South Africa, I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to Madiba and the entire Mandela family at this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you in this time of sorrow” said President Zuma.


Whilst former president Mandela is back at his Johannesburg home since last night, as routine maintenance has to be undertaken at his Qunu home in the Eastern Cape. “The former president continues to be in good health. We once more appeal for his privacy and that of his family to be respected.” Concludes Presidency Office.
